ABOUT CHESHAM 1879 L.T & S.C


One of Britain’s oldest tennis clubs founded in 1879, the club moved in 1975 to its present location in Chesham’s beautiful Pednor Valley, and added two squash courts in 1980. Our friendly and informal club consists of:

  • cTennis section with 6 all weather courts (3floodlight) and 3 American Clay
  • cSquash section with 2 squash courts and viewing gallery
  • cClub house with high standard changing rooms, sauna, bar and function room

Membership

Tennis Section – has about 500 members – includes Full, Offpeak, Junior and Associate. The squash section run by a separate sub committee has around 150 members. Full members of each section enjoy free off-peak membership of the other.


Who runs the Club?

Club members! It is a members’ Club run by elected officers in three committees – the main club committee with tennis and squash sub committees. Help is always welcome and sought for all aspects of club activities – social/admin/tournaments etc.


Tennis Playing Standard

All standards of players are welcome and encouraged. For full members there are three ‘club sessions’ each week – Sunday afternoons at which all full members are welcome, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the summer season, which are both for experienced players.


Adult Coaching

– Tennis - Regular team adult group coaching takes place. The coach also runs regular group or individual sessions.


Juniors

Tennis - The Club is an accredited LTA Performance Centre – one of only five in Buckinghamshire – and runs a full junior performance programme. It is also an LTA Mini Tennis Centre for the under 10’s. The Junior Section, covering children from the age of 4 to 18, has a very active coaching, competitive and social calendar for players of all abilities. Membership includes free group tennis coaching nearly every Friday at Junior Night.


The Bar

The bar is open Monday to Friday 7.00p.m. till 11.00 and Sunday 1.00 to 3.30p.m.


Social Activities

There are many varied social activities in the Club throughout the year – for example discos, lunches, quiz nights, talks, jazz evenings, golf day, dances wine tasting etc. Look on notice board for future events.


Twinning

The club is twinned with the tennis clubs of Friedrichsdorf, Germany and Houilles, France, Chesham’s twin towns, and has regular exchanges.


Clothing

Members are asked to wear dedicated tennis and squash clothing. Tennis shoes should not be black or cleated soled. Squash shoes should not be trainers or shoes that have been worn out of doors.


Tennis Balls

Supplied by club for members’ use.Stored in the ball box in corridor.


Professional Coaches

The Club enjoys the services a professional tennis coach. He is a highly qualified LTA coach. He is available for group and private coaching for all standards. Regular courses are run throughout the year. Our Chief Tennis Coach is Simon Dunford available on Mobile 07776 442880. Our squash coaches are Roger & Kirsty Dugan available on 01494 713288.


Door Swipe Card

For entrance to the Clubhouse is supplied to all adults’ members. Available to Under 18 juniors with a parental signature, but not usually available to Under 12’s.


Annual General Meeting

The main Club AGM is usually held early November each year. All voting members will be notified by post.


Telephone List

– Is provided to all members to aid communication


Shoe Tag

All members are supplied with shoe tag to show bona fida membership.


Guests

Guests are welcome. The same person can be a guest up to three times in one year and should be signed in and a modest green fee paid.
